South West Area Drill 2009 - H.M.S. Raleigh
The South West Area Drill and Piping Competition was held at H.M.S. Raleigh over the weekend of 27th Feb - 1st March 2009.
Swansea unit, representing West Wales district, gained the 'hat-trick' of awards for the Armed Guard competition by winning:
- Best Guard Commander (a title which has been held by Swansea unit for 5 of the previous 6 years.
- Best Dressed Guard.
- Overall Best Guard.
The Overall Best Guard has only ever been won once before by a Welsh unit – also a team from Swansea.
Swansea unit also performed extremely well in the other areas of the competition with our Colour Party Team coming 5th and the Piping Team coming 6th.
This excellent performance followed our huge success at the West Wales District Drill and Piping Competition, in Carmarthen, with Swansea unit achieving their first ever win in the Piping Competition.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank all of the staff, cadets and parents who have supported the drill team, and to wish good luck to the cadets from Avon, Somerset and Dorset and Devon district who will be joining us to represent South West Area at the National Drill and Piping Competition at H.M.S. Raleigh on 24th - 26th April 2009.
